S.A. de Instalaciones de Control

Sainco, Sociedad Anónima de Instalaciones de Control, was established in January 1963 in Seville, Spain. Since 1969, it belongs to one of the most important Spanish industrial consortium, Abengoa. Within Abengoa, Sainco belongs to the so-called Control System Group, with an annual turnover in excess of 150 M$ and a workforce of more than 1,000 employees.

Sainco is configured as a Communications and System Control Integration company capable of executing the full construction cycle of any project, from engineering to design, including the commissioning, maintenance and system development.

Sainco offers an integrated solution for Distribution Automation, Meteorology, Water, Environment Protection, Electric Power Transmission, Oil&Gas, Transport and Factory Automation, which includes specific designs, developing owner products in four fundamental areas: Remote Terminal Units, Communications, Control Centres and Special Equipment (energy control, service quality and remote meter reading).

Sainco´s business sector involves the preparation of bids. Most of these bids are made in order to conclude contracts with customers from Latin America, where Sainco has an extensive experience in the management of large projects. In fact, in 1998, 70% of the total net turnover was obtained through its international activities, which take place mainly in the Latin American market.

Sainco is the exploitation and dissemination leader, and it is interested in disseminating the results of the PRIMA project inside Sainco and to the companies in Abengoa.

With PRIMA, Sainco pretends to identify and cut down the potential risks of its projects (risks in the bid phase), classified in five groups: technical, human, financial (including currency risks), relative to the market and in relation with competition. All these risks reduce the project’s profit margin. Sainco´s projects result in a 15 to 20 % gain in the project margin. With PRIMA, Sainco could limit loss of the profit margin due to risks, reaching as much as 0% risk in the ideal case (from the present 5%). Since the company net sales amount to 90,5 MEuros (1998), the PRIMA project could increase the profit to 4,6 MEuros per year.

Sainco´s own product quality system is certified by AENOR (Asociación Española de Normalización). Sainco has been performing periodical auto-evaluation checks (applied to some of its products) during the last year in order to comply with the EFQM norm (European Foundation for Quality Management). Therefore, the PRIMA project will be applied not only to the standard products, but also to all engineering projects with Risk Management and Identification, in which the company has a wide experience.

Apart from this, Sainco intends to exploit PRIMA results in Latin America, where has already established permanent delegations such as affiliated companies, subsidiaries and exclusive commercial agencies.
